2010 CHÂTEAU TANUNDA THE CHÂTEAU OLD VINE SEMILLON

This very important historic winery building has been brought back to its glory days by South African-born cricket tragic John Geber. This wine is made from 80 year-old vines in a single vineyard at Vine Vale; partial barrel fermentation (doubtless older barrels) and maturation have worked well, without obscuring the varietal fruit. It has enough weight and texture to be enjoyed now, or will benefit from medium-term cellaring. Given its heritage, very good value. James Halliday.

92 POINTS – $15

2010 CHÂTEAU TANUNDA BAROSSA TOWER GARNACHA ROSÉ

I know lighter coloured wine with a confectionary component is a varietal response in many parts of the Barossa Valley to the terroir, but I don’t enjoy it. This is a different kettle of fish. Pale pink, salmon-tinged. The Grenache grapes came from two vineyards: one at Greenock, the other at Seppeltsfield. This is seriously good rosé, in a classic food style, with strawberry and red cherry fruit set in a fine, dry texture. Serve it slightly chilled, and drink this summer. James Halliday.

91 POINTS – $15

2009 CHÂTEAU TANUNDA BAROSSA TOWER SHIRAZ

Sourced from five vineyards including the Cricket Block, this solid red-purple wine has a slightly spicy black fruit bouquet, the medium-to full-bodied palate adding some plum flavours to the blackberry of the bouquet, with oak a medium for maturation rather than contributor to flavour. Drink it any time up to 10 years. James Halliday.
