HISTORY
Carl Freidrich Schiller arrived in 1855 and settled at Light Pass in the Barossa Valley. He purchased his first property in 1864 and soon after established the first vines for the Schiller Family. In 1896 Gottlieb Benjamin Schiller took over the Schiller property and planted further vines.
In the 1900’s additional property was purchased by Victor Leslie Schiller and together with his son Dean Matthew Schiller they planted 40 acres of vineyard. This property mainly consisted of Grenache and Pedro for the production of fortified wines which was popular in the 1900’s. Victor and Dean together ran the vineyard and a dairy. After Victor’s death Dean took over both adventures, and several years later the dairy was discontinued.
In 1974 Dean and his son Matthew Grant Schiller (current proprietor) began establishing more vineyards on the property where the dairy once existed. Matthew took over the vineyards after Dean passed away in 1991.
Matthew with the inspiration of his father’s hard work purchased more property in 2001, and together with his son Ryan Matthew Schiller (sixth generation) established a further 35 acres of vineyard consisting entirely of Shiraz for the production of premium red table wines. In 2002 a producers licence was obtained by Schiller Vineyards for the sale of wine produced under their own label. This heralded a new chapter in the history of the Schiller family in Light Pass.
Today Matthew, his wife Sue, Ryan and the Schiller family have seen their fruit go into Penfolds Grange on numerous occasions, and since 1997 it has made RWT yearly. This consistently superb quality true Barossa style fruit is now sourced into the Schiller Vineyards own label with help from winemaker Neville Falkenberg. The Schiller family’s passion, hard work and proud family tradition continues today to bring you handcrafted premium Barossa wines.

STONETRAIN
In 1917 the South Australian Railways purchased 3 acres of vineyard for the establishment of a railway line. This was later used to transport rock from the quarry, overlooking Light Pass, to Adelaide. Locals affectionately referred to this as the stonetrain. The Schiller family has grown grapes for six generations on the gravely limestone based soils next to the railway line that divides our vineyard. It therefore seemed fitting to call our premium flagship wine the stonetrain. The first Stonetrain vintage was in 1998 and production has certainly grown since then. Still today the train passes through the vineyard everyday carrying rocks to Adelaide

Our Shiraz/Grenache blend is sourced from vines which lay where the race horses once galloped. Our 70 acre property situated in the Barossa village of Light Pass which was once used by locals in the 1900’s for racing their horses. The race meetings were discontinued in 1956 but local still refer to this land as the racecourse.
