10 GOLD MEDALS
Tuesday, 23 February 2010What a way to start an anniversary year…
It’s not every day that you pick up 10 Gold Medals in one wine show but our very own Tim Gold - Smith (as he’s now known) did just that at the BerlinWine Trophy show which under OIV patronage and with the recognition of the Berlin Senate and the European Union is one of the most recognised Wine Shows in the world.
A considerable achievement indeed, and one made all the more significant as the Chateau this year celebrates a 120 Year Anniversary, further enhancing the growing reputation of the Château’s significant Wine Making heritage.
2007 saw a significant change take place at the Château when Tim Smith (now known as Gold -Smith) took over as chief winemaker and the recent awards and accolades, have only reinforced the Château’s enviable reputation within the Barossa.
Grand Barossa Shiraz continued to impress and was awarded four Gold Medals for the current and new release vintage.
Two Gold medals for both of the Noble Baron wines, 2006 Shiraz and 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon also reinforce the recent reputation of the brand in the USA.
2007 Three Graces, a noble blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot also picked up Gold along with the 2009 Cabernet/ Shiraz Kangaroo ridge and Cabernet/Merlot Eagle Rock export labels.
None of this has been achieved without considerable investment within the winery, temperature controlled fermenters and a continual investment in new French oak all making sure the winery is perfectly placed to succeed well into the future.
Celebrating a 120 Year anniversary this year, Château Tanunda is currently enjoying a new lease of life under the direction of the Geber family. Significant recent investments in the last six months have seen the addition of three new vineyards in the Barossa taking the total to 250 acres.
“I’m simply delighted for Tim and all of the Winemaking team and this reinforces my belief that we can really reach for the boundaries this year as we strive for that landmark innings.”
John Geber , Chateau Tanunda. Proprietor.
