Thursday, 16 August 2012Chateau Tanunda 5 Red STAR Winery James Halliday Wine Companion 2013, 13 wines over 90 Points!
John Geber credits his success re-establishing Château Tanunda as one of Australia’s very finest wineries to his PhD. Pig-headed Discipline that is! Theresult of his vision has seen an ever-growing list of accolades and awards with the latest recognition for his historic Barossa Valley winery being the Five Red Star rating in James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2013.
96 Points The Everest Old BushVine Grenache 2009, "...an exceptional Barossa Valley Grenache." Also selected in 'Best of Shiraz and Family.'
The rating describes its recipient as “An outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity”. Only five percent of Australia’s 2,730 wineries were awarded this rating and must have had a five-star rating for the previous two years and at least two wines rated at 94 points or above.
John Geber says “This latest acknowledgment comes hot on the heels of Château Tanunda’s 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2009 triumphing at one of Europe’s most prestigious wine shows, Germany’s Berlin Wine Trophy 2012 by winning the Best Dry Red Wine of the Show Award and pays tribute to our team’s hard work and exacting practices.”
In addition to the international awards Château Tanunda’s wines have been acknowledged by some of the world’s most influential wine publications including Decanter, The Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator. In these tough economic times, when offering value for money is more important than ever, it was a real achievement for Château Tanunda’s Grand Barossa Shiraz 2008 to hit #4 in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Outstanding Value Wines of the World 2011 making it the highest ranked Australian wine on the list. The Wine Advocate rated Château Tanunda one of Australia's Top Twenty Best Value Producers for 2011 saying of the wines “Clean, pure, unpretentious and exquisitely made, these are must-buys for a true taste of the Barossa”.
