Berlin Wine Trophy 2013
Wednesday, 13 March 2013What a way to start the year…
It’s lucky seven for Château Tanunda as it’s not every day one picks up seven medals in a show. However Château Tanunda did just that winning one premium gold, four gold and two silver medals at the Berlin Wine Trophy 2013, which under the patronage of the OIV, is fast becoming one of the most recognised wine shows in the world.
A fantastic achievement which further enhances Château Tanunda’s increasing reputation on the International wine show circuit as we endeavour to maintain the high standards set in 2012. 2012 saw Château Tanunda finish the year with a haul of 42 medals, including a mammoth 23 gold, three of which were double or premium gold, as well as more than 20 wines rated between 90 and 96 points.
It looks like The Château is in for another fantastic year as the 2013 wine show circuit gets underway with seven medals in the trophy cabinet and 90+ point reviews rolling in already.
The highlight of the 2013 Berlin Wine Trophy was the premium gold medal awarded to the 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2010. This is the second year running that the 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz has been awarded a premium gold medal following the same award in addition to the Dry Red Wine of the Show award for the 2009 vintage at the Berlin Wine Trophy 2012.
Château Tanunda received 1 of 9 premium Gold medals out of 3780 wines and sparkling wines from all over the world.
Our single vineyard winesin The Château label, from Bethany, Mattiske also continued their track record of success.
And look out for outstanding value Barossa Tower wines, these are the gateway to the Château Tanunda portfolio and punch well above their weight, the Shiraz and Cabernet Merlot, awarded gold and silver respectively.
With 2011 vintage wines winning medals at the Berlin Wine Trophy 2013 there are echoes of the article in December 2012’s The Wine Advocate “Australia’s Wine Values 2012: Where’s The Fruit” by Lisa Perotti‐Brown MW in which she advises people to “look out for the amazing value 2011 Shirazes and Grenaches from Château Tanunda.” Lisa rated the Grand Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, 90+ and the Grand Barossa Shiraz 2011, 89.
None of this would be possible without considerable investment in the vineyards, winery and winemaking team under the watchful eye of Senior Winemaker Stuey Bourne who ensures that the winery is perfectly placed to succeed into the future. With a total of 250 acres of its own vineyards Château Tanunda is currently enjoying a new lease of life under the custodianship of the Geber family.
“I’m absolutely thrilled for The Château and would like to thank Stuey Bourne and the whole winemaking teamfortheir dedication to the relentless pursuit of quality. These recent awards reinforce my belief that we have reclaimed Château Tanunda’s authentic, historic and iconic position and that the Barossa is capable of producing world‐class wines with personality which over deliver in so many ways.”
