Chateau Tanunda announces fine wine collection release 2020

Château Tanunda, in their 130th year, launches the highly anticipated 2020 fine wine Collection on the 14 October. The sought-after collection includes new vintage releases from the highly awarded ‘The Everest’, ‘Old Vine Expressions’ and ‘Terroirs of the Barossa’ ranges.

Some of the most anticipated releases are the flagship old-vine Barossa Shiraz wines: The Everest Shiraz 2017 (RRP $330), 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2017 (RRP $160) and the 50 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2017 (RRP $80). Collectors will have their radars out for the 2016 release of iconic 150 Year Old Vines 1858 Field Blend (RRP $500), from one of the oldest single vineyard sites in the world.

Chief Winemaker, Neville Rowe, said: “As a winemaker, this is one of the most exciting parts of my role. Nurturing these wines from the vineyard to the bottle then to release.  The 2020 collection wines are some of the finest to date. The 150 Year Old Vines Semillon (RRP $70) and Field Blend have been producing great wines for a century and a half. It is a pleasure of to be the custodian of these great vineyard sites.”

The wines of the signature collection make up some of the most coveted Australian wines by collectors internationally. The wines come from select single vineyard sites from both the Barossa and Eden Valley for the “The Chateau Single Vineyard’ range, and ‘Terroirs of the Barossa’. As well as old vine parcels from 50, 100 to 150 years of age. These vineyards are revered for their high-quality fruit and deep root structure, bringing a diversity of flavour and character.

The winemaking epitomises the finest that modern hand-crafted winemaking has to offer. It is minimalistic, using small open fermenters, gentle basket pressing and aging in the finest oak, to ensure the unique qualities of the vines are embodied in the wines. These rare and collectable wines have proven to cellar well. Highly sought after and with an international reputation, Château Tanunda only produces them in exceptional vintages - but due to small quantities are always limited release.

To celebrate the release on the 14 October, Chief Winemaker, Neville Rowe, will head up a panel including respected wine writers Katie Spain and Rob Geddes MW.  Neville will focus the discussion on the critical characteristics of the wines, including vintage reports and cellaring potential, as well as share personal stories behind the crafting of these wines.

In line with the times, the release will take place across social media platforms in 2020. This includes a private zoom tasting for trade and media at 3pm AEST, followed by a public release tasting via live Facebook and Instagram streams to followers around the world from 5pm AEST.
