Tanunda, South Australia; 23 November 2016 – Château Tanunda, makers of fine wines in the Barossa Valley, has named Michelle Geber as its new General Manager, marking a generational change in the business from proprietor John Geber.
Ms Geber, who has been in various roles including Director of Sales and Marketing and Family Ambassador at Chateau Tanunda for the past 8 years, will spearhead the direction of the company with a focus on maintaining strong international sales, growing the brand presence in Australia, and building the focus on the company as a luxury wine producer of world standard.
“This is a monumental occasion and it give me great joy to pass on the batton of the company to my daughter Michelle. She has done her apprenticeship and is easily the most qualified person for the General Manager role of the company. This has to be one of the more important female appointments in the Australian wine industry ” noted Château Tanunda proprietor John Geber.
“Her experience in sales and marketing with some of the biggest wine names internationally complemented by her comprehensive understanding of the wine business will greatly benefit the expansion of our luxury wine range and the consolidation of our sales channels domestically, and abroad. I look forward to Michelle leading this company to the top”
Michelle started her career in international aid and development before wine marketing roles with renowned wine companies such as Banfi and Concha Y Toro in the USA where she launched Château Tanunda in the USA in 2009 to great success. In 2012 Michelle moved back to Australia to take up the Sales and Marketing role in the family business leading success in the Australian, Chinese and European markets and playing a large role in initiating the premium wine strategy of the company.
In addition we have appointed a dedicated Global Sales Manager who will be responsible for the Australian and export teams. The Matthew Fitz-Gerald, a dynamic and seasoned wine professional with vast experience with some of Australia's leading companies such as Southcorp and Brown Brothers.
Former General Manager, Matthew McCulloch has moved on to a new opportunity outside the company. Château Tanunda thanks Matthew for his dedication and his integral part in the success of the company over the past eight years.
