Château Tanunda Represents Australia's Best Wines at the G20 Summit!

As we approach 2015 and the celebration our 125th Anniversary, Château Tanunda has been awarded one of the highest honours within the wine industry. The Château ‘100 Year Old Vines’ Semillon 2013 was selected as one of only ten wines to represent the Australian wine industry, served to dignitaries at the Official Banquet for the G20 summit. Never before has Australia hosted such a multitude of the World’s most powerful leaders.

James Halliday was tasked with choosing Australia’s best wine, to show off the country’s top standard, that match any of the top wine producing countries in the world. From roughly 20,000 Australian wines available, only ten were selected, and Château Tanunda was one of three from the Barossa. Halliday stated he, “focused on showcasing as broad as possible representation of what I consider to be Australia’s best wines within a broad food context.”

The Château ‘100 Year Old Vines’ Semillon 2013 is a celebration of the Barossa’s Old Vine heritage, made from vines planted more than 120 years ago, around the time construction of The Château itself began. Handpicked and basket pressed, the juice was left to ferment in nine French oak barriques, with ageing for a further seven months to build flavour complexity, depth and length. Approachable in its youth, this classic Barossa Valley Semillon with its tightly wound palate and length of citrus fruit flavours, is built for a long life in the cellar. A stunning representation of what Barossa Semillon can achieve.

Château Tanunda’s ‘100 Year Old Vine’ Semillon is Australia’s top Semillon, revered by critics and consumers alike, and this honour adds to the already prestigious 96 point rating, and Best of Semillon awarded in James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2015. Along with this, Halliday’s 5 Red Star Rating in 2015 and winning the Australian Wine Producer of the Year at the 2014 Berlin Wine Trophy, is a sure sign that Senior Winemaker Stuart Bourne and his team are masters of their craft, coaxing the old vine fruit into the bottle with great skill and finesse.
