The Duchess of Cornwall toasts to Australia's Best Wine!

To launch Château Tanunda's 125th Anniversary celebrations and series of high profile events for the year, Château Tanunda has been singled out as the red wine producer of Australia to taste and present to Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall.

General Manager, Matthew McCullouch presents the '150 Year Old Vines' 1858 Field Blend to The Duchess of Cornwall.

The Australia Day event, hosted in London by Tourism Australia, showcased two of the country's finest wines, one red and one white, poured for Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall and Château Tanunda was chosen as the red wine producer. The Duchess tasted Château Tanunda's yet to be released limited edition wine, the '150 Year Old Vines' 1858 Field Blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Malbec. Tasting alongside the Duchess were Wine Australia's chairman, Brian Walsh and general manager Stuart Barclay who commented that the event was an opportunity to;

"...proudly champion Australia's world-class food and wine evolution, and a chance to tell our wine stories by bringing to life the personalities behind the bottles, on a prestigious stage"

This is the first '150 Year Old Vines' Field Blend vintage ever produced and to say we are excited about this extraordinary wine would be an understatement! From a single vineyard in the Eden Valley, the vines were planted in 1858 as a mix of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Malbec. These low-yielding "Barossa Ancestor Vines" have stood strong and proud for more than one hundred and fifty years, and are a living testament to the Barossa's early European settlers. It's not everyday you taste a single-vineyard, blended wine of more than one hundred and fifty years old, even for Royalty!
