The making of this wine is from vines more than 100 years old. The fruit is sourced from 11 rows of old vines Shiraz in the ancient orchard of McKinnon’s in the hills above Angaston and a small patch of vines on the hills above Krondorf that were restored to fruitfulness in recent years.
The fruit matures very late in the cool vineyards which produces wines that have both finesse and strength. 2005 was an exceptional vintage with near ideal ripening conditions providing terrific fruit concentration, depth of flavour and an elegant structure. Dark black red with strong mulberry and blackcurrant aromatic notes.
Other characters include hints of herbs, spices, oak which adds complexity to the wine. The flavours are richly fruity and soft with great length depth and persistence. Excellent for its rich, savory character and strength. This wine is hand made, basket pressed and unfiltered.
The gentle unobtrusive winemaking has captured the subtle and intriguing characters of these ancient Shiraz vines.
