100 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2014
Tasting Notes

The classic regional characters of dense, spicy blueberry fruit along with hints of liquorice, plum and all-spice are all delicately interwoven.

Winemaking

The hand-picked grapes were destemmed, but not crushed, and spent seven days on their skins in open fermenters with daily hand-plunging and pumping over of the cap to more gently extract colour, flavours and tannins. This was followed by careful basket pressing, and malolactic fermentation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak barrels prior to twenty months' maturation in our cellars.

In keeping with the non-interventionist winemaking style we have neither fined nor filtered this wine.

96 Points, #1 Barossa Shiraz 2014
Review by: Huon Hooke, huonhooke.com
Ranked #1 of 62 2014 Shiraz tasted from Barossa Valley. Deep red with a good tint of purple. The bouquet is richly ripe blackberry and some overtones of smoky, sooty earthiness and a hint of dark chocolate. In the mouth, it's full-bodied and deep, not a blockbuster nor oaky, but has a fruit-sweet core. The ample tannins are quietly gripping and authoritative without any astringency. A lush, decadent and classical Barossa shiraz of superb quality. Long term. 20/5/2016 Drink 2016 to 2039

Rich blackberry, a whiff of spent sparklers, dark chocolate and mint nougat, vanilla and dried herb. Full bodied, rich fruit with toasty oak in support, seasoning of dried herb, grainy tannin that’s enveloped in the folds of red and black fruit, and a finish that’s long and fresh – almost raspberry flavoured with a saline edge. Plenty of wine here.

Intense plum, spice and licorice flavors are plush and expressive with a juicy side and velvety tannins. Cedar, tobacco and nutmeg accents linger on the generous finish. Drinks now through 2030 - M.W.

Dark purple, sharply delineated cherry and boysenberry aromas are complicated by violet, Indian spice, vanilla and cola nuances. Sappy, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering plush, deeply concentrated black and blue fruit, spicecake and mocha flavours that turn livelier on the back half. Shows a sexy floral pastille note on an extremely long, penetrating, smoke-tinged finish framed by smooth, even tannins. This wine's blend of richness and energy is quite impressive.
