Tasting Notes

This is the first wine Château Tanunda has bottled out of the 2008 vintage. This light, fresh and deliciously sweet wine is the perfect aperitif for balmy evenings. The slight natural effervescence is refreshing and cleansing, with fruit notes of guava and rockmelon with a cleansing zesty finish.

Winemaking

Picked early in the morning, the fruit was delivered cool to the winery. Gentle pressing to minimise phenolics and cold settling preceded a long, cool fermentation averaging 12 ° C. The fermentation was left to run its course over 14 days leaving a naturally sweet, vibrant wine. A touch of spritz is detectable on the palate from the residual carbon dioxide which was harnessed and bottled to retain both fruit vibrancy and freshness.

Eminently quaffable and good value for money...'

Moscato has long captured the imagination of Italians with its low level of alcohol, alluring sweetness and slight effervescence. This white wine is just 8.0% a/v and it’s fresh, eminently quaffable and good value for money. Drink it with cheese or as an aperitif.

CHÂTEAU TANUNDA

2008 BAROSSA TOWER     MOSCATO Barossa Valley 8% 90 points
Fresh and grapy with a squirt of lime and sherbet, sweet of course but not overdone and sickly, this is moscato for the new season, subtropical, fruity, its fizz finely managed and finished with a crispness as well. Open it with a green mango or pawpaw salad in mind. TONY LOVE

A full 750ml bottle for this price (many are 375ml-500ml) with wild, sweet, almost jungly fruit smells. Lively effervescence. Plenty of fun and excitement swirling around the mouth with strawberry, rockmelon and guava flavours. Turn on the party lights. 89 Points

Some bonk nailed me in The Ex last week and demanded to know how I could possibly point “a bloody moscato higher than most of the bloody cabernet in the bloody country”. Easy. It’s in this glass right now: the perfect thing to separate ice blocks in a huge cognac balloon while it’s 44C outside. Roses, nashi pear, honeydew. Not too sweet, not too fi zzy, not too dim and simple, lovely acidity, and another bottle in the freezer. Chug-a-lug! Creme fraiche, walnuts and thin sliced habaneros on cracked pepper Vita-Weat biscuits. Perfect hair of the dog stuff, too.
