Château Tanunda Dahlitz Merlot 2013
Tasting Notes

Fruit for the Dahlitz Merlot comes from a single vineyard at the heart of the Barossa Valley’s Tanunda sub-region. The grapes were grown by Barossa Vigneron of the Year 2013 Sam Dahlitz.

The grapes were destemmed but not crushed and spent seven days on their skins in open fermenters to gently extract colour, flavour and tannin.

Twice daily hand-plunging prior to careful basket-pressing have made a full-bodied wine.

Displays lifted aromas of blueberry and plum supported by juicy dark berry fruits and chocolate on the palate. The extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins from fifteen months’ maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels.

Redcurrant jelly, bit of cedar and tobacco – nice thing – almost pretty. Medium bodied, vanilla cocoa sweetness with some plum and more savoury tobacco edges. Pretty smooth with pliant tannin – think velvet cushions, maybe with fancy tassels. Decent finish. Hard to imagine this not being popular.
