Grand Barossa Shiraz 2017
Tasting Notes

Grand Barossa Shiraz epitomises the premium international reputation for Shiraz which has made the Barossa Valley famous.

Lifted aromas of blackberry, plum and black pepper are accompanied by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate.

Winemaking

All of the grapes are fermented in small batches to retain their sub-regional characters. After destemming, the wine ferments for 7 days on skins at 26°C in small open fermenters with regular hand plunging.

This encourages maximum extraction yet retaining the dense, spicy fruit flavours which Shiraz is renowned for.

The wine is gently pressed before spending up to 18 months in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels in our cellars.

Deep red/purple colour and a herby, humus-tinged bouquet, which suggests some Eden Valley fruit in the mix. It’s intense and full-bodied, penetrating and brightly youthful, with abundant tannins which are supple but persuasive. A hint of licorice. An excellent young shiraz. Drink 2018-2027

Vibrant and lifted with bright plummy red fruits and delicate earthy notes. The palate has a core of juicy fruit and a clean lick of bright acid to balance the flavour. Seamless.

This is beautifully fruited and lifted on the nose showing blackberry, spiced cherry, dark chocolate and roasted nut aromas, followed by a succulent palate that is plump and smooth. The wine offers generosity and richness, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2025.

This has a reassuring, 'old school' character as soon as you put your nose in the glass. The distinctively regional earthiness, ripe fruit with a hint of raisin, plus a good measure of vanillin oak are there to greet you. In the mouth it's smoothly textured, the generous flavours rolling on with an escort of gentle tannin. Drink By 2027
