Heritage Release Old Vine Shiraz 2011
Tasting Notes

The resulting Shiraz is full of soft, dark cherry fruit with rich notes of dark chocolate and subtle oak. The palate is textured and layered, with the dark berry fruit aromas again coming to the fore. The palate has a long plush, elegant finish.

Winemaking

All of the grapes were fermented separately at the winery in small 3 tonne fermenters. The grapes were destalked (separating berries from the bunch) and placed uncrushed into small stainless steel open fermenters. A cultured yeast was used to start the fermentation and the tanks were hand plunged spending 7 days on skins at 28° C. Further maturation in a mixture of French and American oak for 18 months has resulted in a wine of great structure and finesse.

For our Old Vine Shiraz we selected grapes from the Hage and Gobell families’ vineyards in Nuriootpa and Stonewell sub-regions respectively.

From 50-year-old vines in the Nuriootpa and Stonewell districts. The colour is excellent, as is the medium-bodied palate, invigorated by its controlled alcohol and building on the fragrant red and black berry bouquet; there are flavours of blackberry, licorice and a salty tang.
