Matthews Road Single Vineyard Shiraz 2012
Tasting Notes

This wine displays lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry and white pepper supported by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate. The extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins from sixteen months’ maturation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak barrels.

Winemaking

Fruit for the Matthews Road Shiraz comes from our cool climate, high altitude vineyard at the heart of the Barossa’s Eden Valley sub-region.

The grapes were destemmed, but not crushed, and spent seven days on their skins in open fermenters to more gently extract colour, flavours and tannins. Regular pump overs prior to careful basket-pressing have made a medium-bodied wine.

Classic Eden Valley spicy, floral and raspberry like perfumes, with a hint of mint. Toast and vanilla as well. An elegant, fineboned, medium-bodied red wine, with winning balance. A great bargain at this price. 14.5 per cent alcohol. Ageing: Now to 12 years. Food: Wiener schnitzel.
