Terroirs of the Barossa Marananga Shiraz 2017
Tasting Notes

Marananga, centred in the North West quadrant of the Barossa provides some of the Valley’s most powerful wines. The red brown clay loam soils with schists and siltstone yield flavours of jam and fruitcake, cardamom, blueberry fruits, cocoa powder with an undercurrent of roasted meats and crackling.

Winemaking

To ensure the unique character of this sub region is exemplified in the wine, small open fermenters and our basket press were employed to gently extract the wine. Aging in the finest quality oak for 18 months and selection of the truest barrels has created a wine that respects and expresses its place of origin.

Impenetrably deep-coloured and blackish. There's extract here, and then some, a bit like an essence of Barossa shiraz. Deep, dark plum, prune and spicy fruit buns on the nose. Ironstone and an unlikely floral thread. Power-packed, ripe in fruit and tannin, yet civilised, this is an unashamedly full throttle shiraz of great impact.  Recommended Drinking: 20192039

Combining gorgeous dark fruit richness with cedary oak, smoked game and spice nuances, the wine delivers excellent fruit weight and intensity, together with lovely opulence and velvety mouthfeel. Mouthfilling and very delicious. At its best: now to 2030.

From the northwest quadrant. Always been there, but the district has only recently gained respect, particularly as the producer of the Barossa Valley's most powerful wines. Jam, black forest, oak, licorice, dark chocolate. Gets away from the alcohol heat with ease. Drink by 2032
