The Château Bethanian Shiraz 2015
Tasting Notes

Lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry and black pepper supported by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate. The extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins from maturation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak.

Winemaking

The grapes are carefully destemmed and spend seven days on their skins prior to fermentation in open fermenters to gently extract colour, flavours and tannins.

One single pressing of the grapes in a basket press and maturation in a combination of French and American oak barrels results in a sumptuous wine of dark fruits of the forest supported by a hint of spice and fine grained tannins on the long lasting finish.

The grapes for the Bethanian Shiraz are grown on the sandy loam soils in the Bethany sub-region of the Barossa Valley.

Traditional style done well. Ripe blackberry, dark chocolate and vanilla, a subtle spice and pepper note. Medium to full bodied, dense and supple, packs in the flavour, but does not go over the top. Tannin ripples through the finish, and the acidity feels pretty well settled. Lots of dark chocolate in the aftertaste.

A wine of both compelling intensity of flavour and concentration, yet one of considerable refinement, too. With new and seasoned French and American oak, this is typical of the regional approach. The wine, though, speaks in reticent tones of smoked meat and ferrous ironstone clad in chalky tannins and cedary oak. The boysenberry fruit envelops the palate as the wine opens, auguring for a long future ahead. NG Drink By:2038
