The Chateau Single Vineyard Bethanian Shiraz 2018
Tasting Notes

Lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry and black pepper supported by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate. The extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins from maturation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak.

Winemaking

The grapes are carefully destemmed and spend seven days on their skins prior to fermentation in open fermenters to gently extract colour, flavours and tannins.

One single pressing of the grapes in a basket press and maturation in a combination of French and American oak barrels results in a sumptuous wine of dark fruits of the forest supported by a hint of spice and fine grained tannins on the long lasting finish.

The grapes for the Bethanian Shiraz are grown on the sandy loam soils in the Bethany sub-region of the Barossa Valley.

Medium crimson. Red currant red cherry brambly aroma with sage cola notes. Buoyant and sweet fruited with red currant, dried plum, dark chocolate, chinotto flavours, fine looseknit chalky textures, attractive creamy richness, roasted nut/ espresso maturation characters and persistent underlying red liquorice notes.

Sweetly fruited and delightfully spicy at the same time, the wine shows blackberry, clove, roasted nut and subtle game characters on the nose, leading to a beautifully supple palate that delivers succulent fruit flavours and smooth mouthfeel. It’s mouth-filling with layers of gorgeous flavours, finishing long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2030.

Deepish red colour with a trace of purple, a touch forward-developed, the bouquet very vegetal and herby with strong hints of whole-bunch. It's very peppery, and these characteristics turn supple, succulent and fruit-sweet in the mouth, while the tannins maintain suppleness and persistence. This tastes of a cooler clime, but retains the luxurious fruit sweetness and succulence of the Barossa. An interesting wine. Drink 2020-2032

Quiet classical, red-plum and blackberry aromas with a gently smoky edge, too. The palate has a very seamless delivery of red plums. Smooth, supple tannins. Drink now. Screw cap.
