The Chateau Single Vineyard Eden Valley Chardonnay 2021
Tasting Notes

Aromas of citrus, pear and white peach lead to enticing stone fruit and fig flavours on the palate. Crisp acidity, complex layering with a hint of nougat and vanilla culminate in a long seamless finish.

Winemaking

Hand-picked from select rows in our high altitude Eden Valley vineyard. The grapes are whole bunch basket-pressed, before the juice is run to barrel for fermentation. Wild and inoculated fermentation is encouraged. Regular lees stirring and 8 month’s maturation in new and seasoned French oak barriques gives the wine beautiful texture and complexity.

Vineyard

Soil Type: Deep clay loam contrast sandy loam soils on dark brown subsoil.

Pale straw with green and gold flecks, this opens with an appealing spiced nose. Good concentration with notes of orange rind, stonefruit and nutmeg, through to some lemon zest on the finish. Impressive length, this is lush and generous in both its flavour and style. Good acidity supports the wine. Should drink very well over the next four to five years. Like this a lot.

Gorgeously composed and styled, the wine shows apricot, rockmelon, vanilla and cedar characters on the nose with a hint of brioche. The palate displays excellent weight and textured mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by elegant oak infusion and refreshing acidity, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2029

Pale colour. Attractive grapefruit white peach apricot aromas with hints of nougat/ marzipan. Creamy textured and classical in structure with plentiful stone fruit flavours, some pear skin notes, fine lacy/ chalky textures, lovely mid palate richness and integrated marzipan/ vanilla notes. Finishes chalky and crisp with honey/ sweet fruit notes. A punter friendly wine with oodles of fruit, complexity and freshness. Drink now – 2026

Sourced from a single vineyard in the Eden Valley. Straw in the glass with aromas of juicy white peach, nectarine, melon and citrus fruits washed with soft spice and notes of clotted cream, vanillin oak, marzipan, white flowers and stone. Creamy, dry and long on the finish with fine, vivid acidity and a lengthy tail of spiced stone and citrus fruits and gentle oak spice.

This is fresh, well-flavoured and well-made. It’s one of the most enjoyable Chateau Tanunda wines I’ve had in some time. Licorice, redcurrant, sweet cedar and woodsmoke notes put on a flavoursome show, ably supported by grainy, earthen tannin, gently salty tannin. Good stuff this. Pure Barossa.
