The Chateau Single Vineyard Shiraz 2020
Tasting Notes

Lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry and black pepper supported by spicy dark berry fruits on the palate. The finish is long and framed by elegant, fine grained tannins from eighteen months maturation in new and seasoned oak.

Winemaking

The grapes are destemmed but not crushed and fermented for seven days in open fermenters with regular plunging and remontage.

Upon completion of fermentation, the skins are gently basket pressed before maturing for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels.

Vineyard

This wine originates from the deep sandy loam soils of the Château Tanunda Vine Vale vineyard, famous for some of the most elegant and fine-structured expressions of Barossa Shiraz.

The colour is a dark maroon. Lovely and enticing aromas here, with notes of chocolate, ripe dark fruits, mocha, coffee beans and some dark plums. There are good signs of early complexity here. Truffle notes and warm earth characters emerge on the palate. There is also no mistaking the serious grip found here - firm, slightly grainy tannins. This is a wine with excellent length, fine balance and good focus. It will provide delicious drinking for at least the better part of a decade. The finish is oozing with plum flavours.

Opaque ruby - loads of upfront jubey, fruit pastille aromas - toasty oak sitting behind. Soft, supple, plush, balanced, early drinking style.

Stylish and richly fruited, the wine shows dark berry, Black Doris plum, toasted spice and cedar characters on the nose, followed by a sumptuous palate offering ripe fruit intensity combined with fleshy texture and beautifully integrated tannins, making it delectably appealing. At its best: now to 2035

This is fresh, well-flavoured and well-made. It’s one of the most enjoyable Chateau Tanunda wines I’ve had in some time. Licorice, redcurrant, sweet cedar and woodsmoke notes put on a flavoursome show, ably supported by grainy, earthen tannin, gently salty tannin. Good stuff this. Pure Barossa.
