The Everest Old Vine Grenache 2006
Tasting Notes

This wine is an exotic mixture of herbs, Asian spices, dried fruits and berry flavours all coming together in a complex and lingering experience.

Supple tannins from the gentle press merely complement the fruit, silky and rich yet impressively interwoven into the wine. The fruit/acid balance ensures excellent length and provides a purity of structure for long term ageing.

Winemaking

Fermented in French oak puncheons, hand plunged 3 times daily. Completed MLF in oak and then matured for 24 months in oak, matured on lees to maintain structure and fruit profile, minimal SO2

Starting to show real complexity, this has more    eucalyptus and mint than the ‘o8 and a hint of camphor and hyper-ripe raspberry fruit. It’s bright, fresh and intensely berry-ish, with soft tannins. June /July 2011

Medium-deep garnet-brick coloured, the 2006 The Everest Old Bush Vine Grenache gives wonderfully perfumed notes of kirsch, eucalypt and dried rose petals with an undercurrent of baking spices, lightly browned toast and dried mulberries. Full bodied and nicely balanced on the palate, it has a medium level of fine-grained tannins and enlivening acidity lending just enough support through the long, layered finish. Drinking now, it should continue to cellar to 2021+ Drink: 2012 – 2021
SILVER Outstanding

Brick red with a slight orange cast. The nose is redolent with raspberry and redcurrant pastille, spicy peppery notes with cocoa and menthol, leather and earth. In the mouth the wine has a fiery, spicy heart, intense concentration, surrounded by gentle tannins. Plenty of depth, the flavours gambol across the tongue, revealing layer after layer in a complex fashion. Great length.
