The Everest Old Vine Grenache 2008
Sold Out
Tasting Notes

Dense purple colour, the nose displays notes of blueberry, kirsch, marzipan and an intense licorice spice. The wine is incredibly dense and multi - layered yet still retains an elegance and softness as well as a textural purity that few wines can achieve.

Supple tannins from the gentle press merely complement the fruit, silky and rich yet impressively interwoven into the wine. The fruit/acid balance ensures excellent length and provides a purity of structure for long term ageing.

Winemaking

Fermented in French oak puncheons, hand plunged 3 times daily. Completed MLF in oak and then matured for 24 months in oak, matured on lees to maintain structure and fruit profile, minimal SO2

A top quality grenache that is seldom achieved in the Barossa (more commonly in McLaren Vale) with volumes of red berry fruit and excellent tannin structure. Cork. DRINK 2020

Raspberry and cherry with a meaty aspect and a malty, nutty spiced biscuit sort of flavour. It’s warm, but under control (especially if served at cellar temperature), with a particularly appealing silky slippery texture - voluptuous and seductive even. It’s a real mouth filler that’s packed with flavour and has excellent length, although I failed to start my chronograph, so can’t give you the exact duration in seconds. I suspect it will improve with further bottle age too.
Flawlessly made red...

This flawlessly made red is the pinnacle of the Chateau Tanunda portfolio. It’s a classy beast, big, bold and opulent with layers of blackberry and blueberry fruit, spice and cleverly used oak, smooth tannins and length to burn.

Dark crimson purple to rim. Wow! What a seductive nose! The characters are almost decadent in their exotic power. Old vine complexity shines through here. Crushed raspberry, asian spice, loganberries, sandlewood, lavendar, chocolate mints, fruitcake, framboise, ferrous earth, leather, coal, cocoa bean ... the list could be endless. Full bodied, lavishly rich and compelling in the mouth, layers that wash again and again over the palate, changing in ever more complex ways. Well. This is one of the most thrilling wines I have ever tasted.

Deep red colour with a purple tint. The bouquet shows development and is beautifully complex, with a savouryness that is apropriate to its age. Vegemite yeast-lees character, the palate absurdly rich and concentrated, super-ripe, a touch raisiny, fabulous wine. Luscious and terrifically long. March 2015
