The Everest - Old Bush Vine Grenache 2010

Tasting Notes

Dense purple colour, the nose displays notes of blueberry, kirsch, marzipan and an intense licorice spice. The wine is incredibly dense and multi - layered yet still retains an elegance and softness as well as a textural purity that few wines can achieve.

Supple tannins from the gentle press merely complement the fruit, silky and rich yet impressively interwoven into the wine. The fruit/acid balance ensures excellent length and provides a purity of structure for long term ageing.

Winemaking

Fermented in French oak puncheons, hand plunged 3 times daily. Completed MLF in oak and then matured for 24 months in oak, matured on lees to maintain structure and fruit profile, minimal SO2

Deep crimson red. Hedgerow flowers and fruits sprinkled with white pepper notes, touches of incense, menthol and sugar plum. The intensity and concentration of this wine is a testament to the fabulous 2010 vintage conditions in the Barossa. Its elements are honed to perfection, seamlessly integrated and result in a fabulous whole. Superb wine with a great future ahead.

Meaty bouquet, earthy, dusty and soy saucy. The palate is incredibly dense, concentrated and rich, with massive sweet fruit and delicious succulence. A gorgeous, juicy, brilliant wine. Totally disarming, amazing wine. The persistence is astonishing. Great wine. March 2015

Hand-picked from the Mattschoss family vineyard at Greenock, destemmed, open-fermented and matured in three used French barriques, 65 dozen made. It is indeed a mountainous Grenache, with deep, sultry fruits - as much black as red - and tannins of equal proportions. It needs a minimum of 10 years to soften its towering, indeed menacing, fruit and tannin mix. Out on its own in terms of durability and price. Drink by: 2030 Date tasted: 12 Sep 2015
