Old Cooperage Grenache 2021
Tasting Notes

Lifted aromas of cherry, raspberry, and liquorice are accompanied by spicy red berry fruits on the palate. Medium bodied on the pallet, the finish is long with fine-grained tannins. 400 dozen produced.

Winemaking

Heritage
The Old Cooperage celebrates the historic relationship between Château Tanunda and A.P. Johns Coopers. Since establishing the Château Tanunda Cooperage in 1889, four generations of the John family have worked in coopering in the Barossa and still provide barrels to our winery.

Vineyard
For this limited release wine, we selected two hand-picked parcels of Grenache from Bethany for the 2021 Old Cooperage Grenache.

Winemaking
The wine is handcrafted in small open fermenters with 30% whole bunch fermentation. It is then basket pressed before 16 months maturation in seasoned French oak hogsheads.

Medium deep crimson. Attractive raspberry, red cherry, hint strawberry aromas with some Campari notes. Inky textured, medium bodied and supple with fresh juicy red fruits, fine lacy textures and long minerally acidity, Finishes chalky and fruity with a hint of aniseed. An early drinking slurpy style. Drink now – 2026

Bright and youthful in the glass. Lifted and pretty aromas of red fruits, dried herbs, pot pourri, white pepper and sweet spice. The palate is mid weight, soft, round and has a lovely juiciness to it. There’s plenty of plush dark fruit flavours and tannins are present and provide shape, as does the lively acidity. 2022-2032
